Does anyone know what's the difference between AH36 and DH36 steel plates? When comparing DH36 and AH 36 chemical composition I can't see any difference. Comparing mechanical properties, only difference is in minimal impact energy. What is the difference than?? I'm student writing paper on heavylift ships, need some usable information. Tnx.
Properties. As with most steels, A36 has a density of 7,800 kg/m 3 (0.28 lb/cu in). Young's modulus for A36 steel is 200 GPa (29,000,000 psi). A36 steel has a Poisson's ratio of 0.26, and a shear modulus of 75 GPa (10,900,000 psi).
As you can see, the mechanical and chemical properties of 1018, the machinability, and the surface finish of 1018 steel are all superior to A36. However, the big advantage of A36 is the overall cost. When deciding between the two steels, take into consideration the end application and the quantity that you will need.
